I already know about the “take 10-30 minutes a day to doodle/sketch stuff until you get better,” but is there an even better way? That method seems like it’d take a long amount of time to yield great improvements. Taking art classes isn’t possible in my case.

Is there another way to accelerate improvements in drawing skills besides the grind grind grind method? Or is art just one of those things where it’s impossible to force it and you’ll just have to take lots of time and patience to truly blossom?

This is only my own personal view based on my own experiences, I’m sure there are better ways of doing things, but in my case, it’s work work work. Work some more. Then work a lil bit extra.

Maybe for someone supremely talented, things will just fall to place without any kind of effort, but for the rest of us, it’s just a question of drawing and practicing!

I find it especially helpful to practice drawing from life and using references. The main thing is to have FUN and not being afraid of failing. For every successful drawing I have, I’ll have about 4 in the bin. 😛 Don’t see drawing as grind grind grind. Try as much as you can to enjoy it. I’ve saved the sketches I did when I was 16 and I still look at them sometimes when I need a chuckle (and a confidence boost).
